The Wedding of the Two-Headed Woman

Alice Mattison plucks a character from one of her short stories, ages her 10 years, and gives her the starring role in THE WEDDING OF THE TWO-HEADED WOMAN. Daisy has been single most of her life, but finally, in her 50s, she is married to a New Haven slumlord. Her job helping other people organize their lives expands and finally culminates in a community theater project and a play about a legendary two-headed woman who is declared by a judge to be twins. As the plot progresses, Daisy begins to wonder if she herself, in all her ambivalence about her life, is--metaphorically speaking--another version of a two-headed woman.
